Plant-based S’mores: air fryer edition!
Growing up, my family and I rarely had S’mores. It was only during the summer (which may seem weird to others as people would normally sit at the fireplace during winter), when we would travel to Hawaii and sit around our cozy fireplace at my grandpa’s home, while enjoying this messy yet mouthwatering treat.
Since I don’t live in Hawaii, my home in Hong Kong does not have a fireplace. Therefore, realizing that I was only able to have this amazing treat during the summer made me extremely unsatisfied.
Just this past Christmas, I was fortunate enough to be gifted an air-fryer by my godparents so I decided to put it to good use. Knowing that an air-fryer’s function is quite similar to an oven’s, I developed a quick, easy S’mores recipe made in the air-fryer that tastes just like childhood and will only take 5 minutes of your time!
An additional twist to make this recipe more sustainable was using vegan ingredients. Some of you may have known this already but did you know that hobnobs are accidentally vegan biscuits? I certainly never did. I was also walking around M&S and found some PlantKitchen Vegan Marshmallows so I decided to use these two products in my recipe.
Ingredients
4 hobnob chocolate biscuits (or a graham cracker with a piece of vegan chocolate on top)
1 jumbo vegan marshmallow (or mini marshmallows)
Pinch of salt!
Instructions
Place two hobnob biscuits onto a plate or folded foil, then split your jumbo marshmallow in half and place each onto one hobnob.
Grab a pinch of salt and sprinkle it over your marshmallows.
Place the S’more into the air-fryer @180 C for 4 to 6 minutes or until the marshmallow is golden brown (if you like your marshmallows and chocolate more burnt, place in the air-fryer for around 7 minutes).
Take your S’more out of the airfryer carefully (do not burn yourself). Take 2 other hobnob biscuits and smoosh them on the golden tops of the marshmallows to create a sandwich.
Split it in half and enjoy with a glass of fresh oat milk or almond milk!
If you do not own an air-fryer, you can easily make this in the oven or outdoors around a campfire.
Oven instructions:
Turn on your oven broiler. Then place your biscuits and marshmallow onto a baking tray and broiler for no longer than 3 minutes (make sure to keep an eye on the treat to make sure there is no burning)
Campfire instructions:
Light your campfire or turn on your fireplace (if electric). Then take a stick and skewer the marshmallow on. Then rotate the marshmallow over the open flame until you get the desired consistency you are looking for. Smoosh the marshmallow in between some hobnob biscuits (or two pieces of graham cracker with some chocolate).
